Driven to Extraction

Curved lines
The task at our meeting today was to look at a photograph or picture and select a small portion of it to influence a picture created in stitch.  Where possible the idea was to use the theme we are currently working on  of  "Along the Lines".
Inspiration above and the beginnings of the stitched work below ...
Inspiration from a brassica on the allotment here stitched on a piece of damask tablecloth.
Another person also used plant material as inspiration.
Landscape lines make for an interesting piece of work
No guessing where the inspiration for this piece came from.  Do you recognise the book?  She was also finsihed her stitched piece long before everyone else.
Finally, more plant material. Wonder if this member of the group needs a little help to find her needle and thread at times!!

It's in the Bag

One of the Running Stitchers had very cleverly made this little bag, which has a cord handle to carry it by.  Upon further investigation it was a fairly simple construction which made three internal pockets.  Two squares of fabric had been lined and folded to make the front and back.  When stitched together around three sides, they made a third pocket in the centre of the back.  The person in question has two daughters.  One likes bling and the other has more reserved tastes.  you can guess which one this bag is for.

The New Year meeting also revealed that several members thought we should change the group name to "Slimming Stitchers" to relieve us all of some of the extra pounds we have all piled on over recent months.  Perhaps we just need to get on and do a bit of "Running" instead!

Reed Pen and Ink Drawings

What a surprise - one member of the group had taken the reed pen and ink drawing we did in November, chopped it up, reassembled it, then stitched into it adding press studs.

It's in Black and White

We all did a little exercise called "Splitting Shapes" from the book by Jane Dunnewold, Claire Benn and Leslie Morgan called "Finding Your Own Visual Language".  It was interesting to see how they differed from each other when we all began from the same starting point.

Green Piece

The first meeting of 2015 and most members of the group had finished their piece of work created from 11 different green fabrics.
